These are the 10 Categories of People Exempted From Fasting

Today's reminder is talking about the ten (10) Muslims whom fasting have been waived upon.

1. A child...

2. An insane person...

Evidence for these is the saying of Rasoolullah (sallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam) “The Pen has been lifted from three (people): from the sleeper until he awakens, from the child until he reaches puberty and from the insane person until he comes to his senses -- or until he comes round.” Narrated by Abu Dawood (4403)

3. A sick person...

4. A traveler...

Evidence for these is the saying of Allah (interpretation of the meaning): “and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Sawm (fasts) must be made up] from other days”

[al-Baqarah 2:185]

5. A person with severe/permanent ailment...

6. An old person...

7. A pregnant woman who fears harm to herself or the foetus...

8. A breastfeeding mother who fears harm to herself or the baby...

Evidence for these is the saying of Allah (interpretation of the meaning): “And as for those who can fast with difficulty, they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskeen (poor person) (for every day)”

[al-Baqarah 2:184]

9. A menstruating woman...

10. A postpartum mother...

Evidence for this is the saying of Abu Sa’eed that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Is it not the case that when one of you menstruates, she does not pray or fast? That is what is meant by lacking in religious commitment.”

(Bukhari)

Allah knows Best.
